Google goes all-in on AI

Google just announced a ton of new things coming out at their annual Google I/O event. Here’s three of my highlights:

  • Bard - Google’s ChatGPT competitor - open to everyone

    • It’s FREE

    • Audio and visual input

    • Realtime internet access

    • Webpage summaries

    • Code explanations + integration with Replit

  • Duet AI integrated into workspaces

    • Use generative AI across Google Docs, Slides, Spreadsheets and more

  • PaLM 2 — Google’s new, efficient large language model powering products like Bard. Kinda like how GPT-4 is the backend to ChatGPT.

    • Already being used in the development of Med-PaLM 2, the soon-to-be-released medical chat engine from Google.

You can find the full list of announcements here.

OpenAI unlocks Plugins and Browsing

Remember when I talked about Plugins two months ago? Well now, in light of the Google’s announcements, OpenAI just unlocked Plugins and Browsing for its paid users.

Here’s what the Plugin store looks like:

So far, I’ve been using the Wolfram plugin, which is able to write full equations in the correct notation and give more accurate calculations based on WolframAlpha.

Simply go to Settings > Beta Features > Plugins and turn it on.

🛠️ Tool Highlight

  • ChatPDF (chatpdf.com) — basically ChatGPT for any document. Simply drag-and-drop your PDF and you can:

    • Generate summaries

    • Ask questions

    • Save your chat history

Having tried other article summary sites, I can say that this one is the easiest one to use so far. Give it a try!

🤯 Coolest Thing I’ve Seen This Week

AI-generated Lord of the Rings, directed by Wes Anderson. By far the best AI-trailer I’ve seen yet.

That’s all for today, thanks for reading!
